Talking Point: Are Beauty Brands Becoming More Accountable?
Nigerian-born, LA based Sharon Chuter started on a mission to go off the well beaten path to redefine the rules of inclusivity and diversity with the launch of UOMA Beauty, known as the first ‘Afropolitan’ beauty brand. Following the death of George Floyd, despite recent public statements from brands reacting to the current anti-racism revolution sweeping through the globe, she launched PULL UP FOR CHANGE a social, direct-action campaign, backed by a list of celebrity names, to spotlight the underrepresentation of black people in corporate America and build an anti-racist beauty industry. She talks to us about her inspiration behind this movement, why this conversation is still necessary and how consumers hold the power to truly effect change.
